I have been teaching my friend Maddie to knit

She finished a baby hat, but models were rather thin on the ground in my apartment.

18th Street near 6th Avenus

This place corners the market on unusual appliances and shows them off every day.  I know I have shown their display before but I loved today's version.

sometimes serendipity is fun....

I have a Vermeer Calendar on my studio desk under some glass and I had, at some point, stuck some figures I had cut out to use as silhouettes in GelliPlate printing... they have been there a while, as I destructed my created gelliplate and have not made another.... but yesterday I looked at them....
Visitors had arrived at the Vermeer house...

little journals ...

Over on what I call the "Big Blog" I have some pondering on journals and what I am doing right now, but here I wanted to show something else that I have done in some journals.

In a moment of madness I looked at a spice bottle that I was using to add spice to something I was making.  Expiration date 2006!!!  I looked at some others. They were more recent, but out of date nonetheless.  So $150 later I had replaced most everything in my spice drawer.

Everyone who knows me (see the Big Blog for more) knows how hard it is for me to throw things away, so I rounded up the most likely suspects and made pastes that I smeared on journal pages....

The look really great, don't they?  I think they could be used this way with some gel medium on them, however,

after sitting 24 hours and then being rinsed,  there are still some interesting colors on those pages.  No mordant used, so who knows what will happen to them next, but some of these oldiesI bagged up and kept when the new ones came in.

When I slide over the edge, someone is going to find those plastic bags of million year old spices and wonder exactly WHAT I was thinking. Right??

I think he is tired of the snow also

This poor fellow is in some of the deepest snow he has been sitting in and the ball is just sitting there teasing him.  He is not going to be playing any time soon.  That snow is not light fluffy snow, it is solid ice and it is 27 degrees out so it will be frozen solid for a while.  I hope he is good at meditation.

Saul Leiter died recently

He was one of those people whose photos I return to again and again.... he was also a big influence.

Welcome to 2014.  I am just getting here myself.  I guess I took an unannounced break there at the end of 2013, so I didn't get to show you this.....
Here was Macy's main floor over the Holidays.  They did a really nice job this year, sometimes they get a bit over the top, but this year it was excellent.

OK, no big promises but I am trying to make a comeback of sorts here and over on the 'main' blog..
hope to see you all again soon..s
