This stop is near what used to be called the "Ladies Mile" with old department stores in big cast iron buildings. The walls here are bedecked with hats. What I discovered when I got off the train to look was that each hat is attributed to a famous personage of the era with some fun presentations. So thie week.... The Ladies Mile Hats.

Times Square Station according to the MTA
I finally found some more information about this wall. It is here It describes "Glazed ceramic panels in the transfer corridor between the 1/2/3 station and the Shuttle. The commission was received in 1992 and the first phase of the work finally installed 2004-2005. Ultimately the work will consist of 35 ceramic panels installed in over 800 feet of passages at Times Square. Toby Buonagurio is a lifetime resident of New York City and a professor at City College of New York best known for her colorful, offbeat, tongue-in-cheek, ceramic sculpture." I think it is done, there are at least 35 of them and they are really fun.
